Former US diplomat honoured with Nigerian traditional title in JigawaA former United States diplomat, Russell Hanks, has been honoured with the traditional title of Wakin Amana of Dutse Emirate, Jigawa state.
Garba Shehu, one of the spokespersons of President Muhammadu Buhari, disclosed this on social media as he congratulated the latest northern chief.
Shehu did not however give details of the event, but simply said:“My good friend of many years, Russell Hanks, who retired as a US diplomat was recently honored as WAKIN AMANA of Dutse Emirate, Jigawa state.”
Hanks joined the US Foreign Service in 1988. He has served in West Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and South America and played strong roles in the elections in Guyana and Nigeria in the 1990s.
He also reportedly played important roles in the peace processes in Liberia, Sierra Leone, Chad, and Sudan, and Guinea-Bissau.
NAIJ.comhowever reports that while Nigeria honoured Hanks, former President Goodluck Jonathanwas in Malaysia where he advised young people around the world to unite with the old so as to forge a common front.
Jonathan spoke on Friday, September 8, in Sarawak, Malaysia, as a guest at the International Summit on Peace organised by the Junior Chamber International.
